Logic
One primitive: a NAND gate. Wire some together, prove the circuit against its truth table, seal it into a chip, then build the next thing out of that. Fourteen rungs later it is a processor running a program.

The rungs after it are reachable rather than comfortable, and the processor at the end is 365 gates and 93 wires on a bench the size of a playing card: that one wants a mouse, and the page is not going to pretend otherwise.
